“Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.” – Dalai Lama
A smile and a grateful thank you for a small act, such as opening a door for a stranger with their arms full can really brighten one’s day. Similarly, it is often the small contributions that can add up to quite a lot, like the expanding ripples from a pebble into water.
In thinking of First Community Foundation Funds, often what stands out are the named or endowed funds. Those are important, to be sure, but all donations make a difference. People donate to memorials, to honor someone, or for a specific purpose. Maybe a testimonial from a grant recipient inspires donations.
Whatever the reason, we know that most donations are not huge amounts—67% of all donations and 75% of memorials in 2019 were under $100. For less than the cost of a nice dinner out for a couple, these donations are like pebbles with ripples extending across First Community programming and mission areas.
If there is a specific program, mission or purpose you feel very strongly about supporting into the future, you may be surprised to know that starting a fund may be within reach. For example, an unendowed named fund starts at $10,000 but can be funded over 3 years. As many will attest who have started a fund, you don’t have to be wealthy, only committed to making a difference in your church and community.
Be like a pebble and make ripples!
